Soft Spherical and Toric Lenses for managing myopia

A professional challenge

Managing myopia is a significant challenge in contact lens practice. Numerous studies ¹ have demonstrated the effectiveness of RGP lenses for orthokeratology in controlling myopic progression, but not all patients are ideal candidates.

In case of deterioration, TSLAC offers several strategies:
  • adjustment of correction with spherical and toric lenses
  • use of Myopic lenses, which integrate distance power with an area of peripheral defocus control

With regard to orthokeratological effects, visible in corneal topography after application and based on the company’s know-how, it has been possible to associate soft monofocal lenses (spherical and toric) with a paracentral area for the modulation of positive spherical aberration.

The range offers maximum customisation to facilitate adaptation to the subject’s eye characteristics. The following corrective options are available:

  • spherical geometry lenses, for simple myopia
  • internal toric lenses with optimised dynamic stabilisation, to compensate for myopia associated with astigmatism

Selection criteria

The fitting of Myopic lenses follows the normal procedures for selecting parameters and applying soft TS lenses. The coverage ratio and movement when blinking and in different gaze positions must meet the criteria of stability and centring in order to maximise corrective effectiveness and reduce optical interference.

Recommended polymers

The production choice focuses on combining Myopic design with silicone (SH) materials, with high Dk and frequent replacement, to promote many hours of daytime wear and ideal performance. Optimised thicknesses and dynamic stabilisation in toric lenses ensure comfort even for younger patients.
